Movie Genre Research - Missing

 Genre research: Missing

What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

Hints and Foreshadowing: Curious viewers are likely to notice hints in mystery stories. To build suspense and hint at upcoming events, one technique employed in storytelling is foreshadowing.

Red herrings and clues: Throughout the film, there are hints scattered throughout that the viewer can piece together to unravel the mystery. Use red herrings, or deceiving information, to keep viewers guessing and avoid a simple solution.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I liked how this movie had plot twist after plot twist to keep me entertained.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

Complex Plotting: Several viewers like myself may find it difficult to follow intricate and complicated plots with lots of turns and twists. Although complexity gives the mystery more depth, many who like basic narratives may find it unpleasant.

Movie Genre Research - Happy Death Day 2u

Genre research: Happy death day 2u

What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

Tension and pace: To keep viewers interested, mystery films frequently strike a balance between tension and pace. Properly placed discoveries and developments guarantee that the reader's interest is maintained throughout the story.

Detective or Investigator: The main character assumes the responsibility of cracking the case and is often a detective or investigator. Typically, this character is perceptive, clever, and driven to find the truth.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I like character development used throughout the movie because it adds further layers to the mystery, it would be worthwhile to investigate their interactions with other people.

What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

Poorly Made Twists: Mystery movies sometimes include plot twists, but forced or poorly done twists can come across to be unnatural and disappointing. If a twist feels like a random plot device or lacks foreshadowing, viewers may become disappointed.

Genre Final Decision

I choose Mystery.

I choose Mystery as our genre because it relates the best to my pitch. Nothing about our pitch is horror like which would be the only other option in our case. If I were to make a movie out of this project in my mind I image the rest being a mystery which you will understand more as you read our blogs. Since this is the opening of a movie it’s the being and the rest would be like a trying to figure out why she's being asked to see the moon . Mystery makes the most sense because the girl is curious on what is so alluring about the moonlight

.

Genre Conventions - Thriller

 Another genre chosen was Thriller.

Common camera angles are low angle shots are often used in thriller genre videos to emphasize the power dynamics between characters and to heighten the sense of impending danger. Point-of-view shots and over-the-shoulder shots are crucial techniques for creating tension, drawing the viewer into the characters' experiences, and boosting the excitement of the story.

common Mis-en scene in Thriller videos often feature characters in common costumes such as dark, mysterious attire or disguises, creating an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue. Lighting in thrillers tends to be strategically used, employing shadows and contrast to intensify the suspense, with occasional bursts of dramatic lighting to heighten pivotal moments and evoke a sense of unease.

Common editing techniques in thriller videos include fast-paced cuts and quick transitions to build tension and maintain a sense of urgency. Additionally, the use of jump cuts and unconventional camera angles contributes to a disorienting atmosphere, enhancing the overall suspense and unpredictability of the narrative.

Thriller videos often utilize tense and suspenseful soundscapes, incorporating ominous music, eerie ambient sounds, and sudden, sharp sound effects to create a sense of unease. The strategic use of silence can also be a powerful tool, heightening anticipation and making impactful moments more jarring in the audio landscape of a thriller.

Example films: Sound of freedom, Nowhere, and Five nights at freddy's

I like that this Genre because it is very suspenseful and keeps me intrigued.

I don't like that thriller videos are  excessive violence, gratuitous gore, or explicit content to be elements of thriller videos that they dislike.

Genre Conventions - Horror

A genre I decided on was horror.

Common camera angles used in horror videos/movies would be high-angles often used to make characters appear vulnerable, low-angle to make characters look more dominant (often the bad one), Dutch angles are also used to create a sense of imbalance and close-ups are used to show fear on someone’s eyes or show a curvature smile.

Common mis-en-scene in horror films are a dark setting in a rural location away from everyone, props often used are weapons such as knives, axes and chainsaws that would create a painful death, Black, red, grey and brown would all be colours considered for a horror film as they all signify danger and tragedy, most people (mainly victims) in horror films look like the are dressed casually but a lot of effort is put into their outfits to show hints of their role and personality in the movie, the weaker characters in the frame are the ones who are opposite the camera on the floor showing how positioning affects how the film is and finally facial expressions used in Horror films would be those of fright and terror as the whole purpose of a horror is to entertain through fear

Common editing strategies in horror are cuts to build pace quickly, they are usually used to get from one shot to the next rapidly, with no transitions in between the two shots. These are mainly used in action or thriller trailers to create suspense and are sometimes implemented into horror trailer, like Sinister, at the end of the trailer to build to the climax, normally featuring a jumpscare. Another transition that is frequently used, especially in horror films, is the fade to black. It is mainly used at the start of a trailer to help narrate the story at a slow pace so that tension can be built from the off

Example of horror films: A nightmare on Elm street, Halloween and Psycho

If I were to use this genre, I would definitely implement easy things to accomplish at home. This things can be lightning, camera angles and mis-en-scene that can be motified instead of spending money. Lighthing can be achieved by using led lights on closing windows and using flash lights. The camera angles would be achieved by the camera man which is also really easy and free. We could also edit a certain way or edit in sounds to make it fit into the horror genre.

One element that doesn't appeal to me is the props and acting skills necessary. For the props, it would have to be somethibg that can create a quick death like a knive which is a safety concern for me. The acting skills its also concerning due to the fact that if you don't have a good acting "face" it would be hard to be scary. This elements don't appeal but i'm sure can be achieved easily be achieved.

Genre Conventions Research - Mystery

One genre I thought of was a mystery

Common camera angles used in a mystery video would be close ups to show the facial expression of the actors, extreme close ups to emphasize the thing shown like a prop, over the shoulder shot to give a dark feeling and POV shot may be used to give another perspective of what the actor is seeing.

Common Mis en scene found in a mystery blog are costumes that fit into a mystery are dark colored clothes. The lighting is usually dark to create a mysterious sense and the acting is a fear or scared feeling. Makeup, props and the setting depends on the video.

Common editing used in this genre are jump-cuts,  reverse shots, and fade outs. Common sound used is dialogue, diegetic and non diegetic sound. An example of a mystery film I like is The Black Swan. Some elements of the mystery genre that don’t appeal is an event not being explained to create suspense and questions.

My Pitch

Hey Bloggers, welcome to my Pitch blog!

Pitch A: A girl wakes up in the middle of the night to strange requests to look up at the moon that grow more and more concerning by the minute.

Pitch B: A girl starts her average day until she slowly realizes everyone has somehow vanished.

Discuss Pitch A: I would like to make this film because I am interested in this concept the most. It is convenient considering there are not multiple people required to make this film, and the destination for filming can simply be my own home.

Discuss Pitch B: This pitch is definitely my second choice. It seems like a very interesting idea however I am just simply not connected to it. Although it is convenient just like pitch A, I want to use a prompt that I will be fully interested in.

My final Decision: Since I am more invested with my first pitch, I have decided to go with Pitch A: A girl who is receiving strange requests to look at the moon.

Group Blog -

Hey bloggers! Welcome back to Ary's world. In this blog, I am going to be discussing my group for our next project. I am excited to be making a commercial, but every project needs a crew. I have decided to pick a group of three to aid me in this project. A reason I believe I will do well in this group is my creativity. I also have prior knowledge about cameras due to my experience in musical theatre. I have previously worked in front of and behind a camera which I think will aid my group. I will be able to help film our video with a variety of shots and angles. I have picked my friend Katherine. Katherine is an excellent artist which will be great for the commercial for our storyboard. Another person in my group that I have picked is my friend Camila. Camila is very musically talented which I believe suits this project considering it is a MUSIC video. Camila is great with recognizing beats and melodies that will go perfectly with our commercial. Our group has all decided we want a song that pairs well with our personalities and entertaining. I believe Camila will be able to help us choose a song that illustrates what we want our video to be like. The next person I have chosen in my group is Lyne. Lyne is very motivated and smart. Lyne is also talented with editing. I believe she will be able to help us stay on track and plan when to film our video and where. Lyne will also be able to help with editing our shots together. Overall, my group members are all equally talented and I cannot wait for our commercial.

Introducing Myself -

Hey, my name is Aryanna Morrobel. I was born in October of 2007, and I am 15 years old. I was born in the United States and have moved around a few times. Some things that make me who I am are the things I like. My favorite time of day is the sunset, specifically at the beach. I've always loved the beach, the smell of the ocean and laying in the sand. I love taking pictures. Whether it's of scenery, my friends or something I just wanted to save. I love having the memories to always look back on. I spend forever in my photos. I find it tiring when I settle into a constant routine. I dislike when things repeat yet I find it hard to accept great change. One important thing about me is family. I have my mother, father, grandmother and many cousins in my life. Some of my greatest joys in life are spending time with my family. Another thing that brings me joy is my academics. I put genuine effort into my schoolwork and activities that will further my academic success. I love my Puerto Rican heritage. I often spent summers with my hispanic family back on the island. I am still figuring things about myself. I find comfort in reflecting on the past and it motivates me to continue my future.
